What is Search Engine Marketing?

Search engine marketing is a very good option for marketing products and services to new customers. Business owners can use search engines to reach a vast audience across the internet. Also know as SEM, search engine marketing increases the amount that a web page can be viewed in search results. This is done with the use of search engine optimization, contextual advertising, paid placement, and paid inclusion.

The factors of search engine optimisation include creating specific keywords and images that are relevent to the title. Decription tags that contain keywords and phrases for each web page. Web page titles are also optimised to include a business name and a description. Getting the web site indexed can be done by using Yahoo or Google Webmaster Tools.

Paid placement is done with the pay per click method, also known as PPC. The advertiser only pays the host when the ad is clicked. Advertisers create bids on keyword phrases for their business. Content sites generally do not use a bidding system and charge a fixed price per click. Google Adwords, Yahoo! Search Marketing, and Microsoft adcenter are the largest network operators for this service.

The use of contextual advertising will get the attention of a customer while they are viewing a web site. This is done with a system that scans the web site for keywords and displays advertisements on the web page based on the results. Paid inclusion works by paying a search engine company for being placed in a search index.
